Emergency Shelter

The goal of the shelter is to provide a safe refuge for all women and children escaping domestic violence. The shelter is designed to ensure that women as well as their children are supported and empowered while they are trying to recover from the violence they have witnessed in their homes. The shelter is handicap accessible and currently houses up to 8 women and 8 children for short term services.

In addition to safe, confidential shelter, Transition House provides an array of emergency shelter services including food, specialized children's services, individual and group counseling, legal and housing advocacy, and lessons in economic literacy, and parenting skills support.

The Dating Violence Intervention Program (DVIP)

The Dating Violence Intervention Program is a school-based program which works to prevent relationship violence among adolescents. Established in 1986, it was the first school-based domestic violence prevention education and counseling program in Massachusetts. DVIP's primary goal is to prevent youth from accepting violence in their relationships, and to teach healthy and respectful standards of behavior. DVIP offers one-on-one and group counseling for teens in abusive relationships, and classroom based violence prevention education including bullying intervention, as well as other intervention services.

Transitional Living Program (TLP)

Our Transitional Living Program houses women for 9 to 24 months, and is often the best next step to normalization, self-sufficiency and permanent safety.

The TLP provides an additional continuum of care to women and children who have stayed at an emergency shelter, are safe enough to live in a non-confidential location, are unable to locate permanent affordable housing, and are not yet stable enough to be fully independent.

Located in two sites the transitional living programs houses 4 single women and 5 families. The women share 4 apartments they prepare to go back to independent living. The women we serve come to us from emergency domestic violence shelters throughout the Commonwealth and are referred to us by the Department of Transitional Assistance and other community agencies. Services focus on long-term stabilization of health, economic and housing situations. Women work closely with a case manger and focus on an individualized plan of short and long term goals that are tailored according to their needs. All participants attend weekly support groups and workshops such as: self esteem, self-defense, budgeting and saving skills etc. Mothers attend parenting groups and children receive support and counseling.

This program provides the women and children long-term housing that offers them stability and support services.
